Housing Policy

The greatest problem facing a government trying to retain the support of the country whilst administering painful economic solutions is to show that there really will be benefits for us all once the ship is steered back on course. In a nation famed for its home = castle philosophy nothing plucks the heart strings more than the residential housing market and there has been much written about the relationship of the credit crunch to the over heated housing market over the past decade or so.I worry about any kind of tinkering that may extend debt but something has to be done and perhaps these new proposals will bring fruit. There will be enough debate on the subject by the great and good of this land over the next few days and that , at least , is a start. What is certain is that there will be no quick fix , it will take time for a new balance to emerge in the housing market and our view remains that rentals will form a much larger part of the solution than they have in the past.
